There lies another race, banished away from Lodan's upper crust society and condemned as demons, this race is called "Andersweltlers". Originally hailing from another realm, they sought safe refuge in Lodan; as their home land was being destroyed by a terrifying force, a force that managed to wipe out the vast majority of their numbers. In desperation, the Andersweltlers' most powerful mages opened a portal to the nearest safe haven.  The portal chose Lodan, much to the distaste of the Humans upon being invaded by these 'Demons'.

The Story

Lodan is a city built on technology and powered by steam, one that many neighbouring towns grow jealous of for its vast array of knowledge. City of endless possibilities, it is a playground for merchants, inventors, engineers and visionaries alike. However, in such a popular and powerful place lies a dark secret; humans are not the only ones to call Lodan 'home'.

The invasion caused an uproar, Humans refused to share their city with these strange beings, despite their human-like appearances.  For 50 years, battles were fought, Humans & Andersweltlers were killed and only paused their attack on each other to fend off their mutual adversary known as the shadow beasties.

Questions?

The condition was agreed and using the best mages they had, they sealed the portal; making sure that no one could leave or enter the opposite realm, including those still fighting off the terror. 100 years after their initial arrival, Andersweltlers have been more accepted amongst the humans, but they are still seen as a lower class.  Most of the Andersweltlers living within the slums of the city and hired to do lower paying jobs. The Andersweltlers agree that it's not a perfect life, but they have safety; more or less, if one could overlook the post-century civil war so fresh in our minds.  Now everyone sits, watches, and waits, as they start rebuilding their strengths and bidding their time.

Soothe Sayers often crowded the streets of Lodan, blaspheming unwelcome predictions of Civil War in the city. For the rare few among the population who put any stock in these unwanted warnings, it was often assumed the factions would split down the middle between magicians and technologists. Although the war predictions had proven true, the assumptions regarding the cause would prove false. At the time, the city was operating in a thriving culture ruled by one queen and revolving around a system of 10 guilds: secret societies of mages, engineers, merchants, historians, assassins, pirates, thieves, hunters, military and entertainers. They managed well enough as long as everyone was afforded their privacy about their race and kept their affiliations well cloaked. At least until the queen went missing... around the same time the assassins were framed for murdering a pirate in cold blood.

The tension in the city could be felt by all as lines were drawn, revenge was taken, retaliations were made and it wasn't long before not a guild or citizen of the city was safe. A fight for survival, and more importantly - power in the queens absence - caused everyone to take a side as the fires raged and the smoke smothered the sky. The Civil War caused a lot of deaths, and for endless months left the city ravaged and out of order. Friends, family, neighbors, your closest ally, or maybe your biggest crush, many would not rise from the ashes. The city mourned, it stumbled on from its losses with uncertain feet just shuffling along the cobbled streets without a purpose. From these forlorn faces new leadership arose. Survivors from the nameless and gainless battles mustered their courage and banned together with one common goal. To rebuild, bigger, stronger, safer guilds.

The merchants and the mechanics joined in unity. The entertainers and assassins banded together. The pirates and thieves unified their numbers. The magicians spawned a new and even the military was once again reborn. Even the Queen's sister has taken over as matriarch, which has caused a righteous anger amongst the guilds, as they believed one of them was bound to take over power when the Queen was no longer the authority. And this, dear citizen, is where your story really begins.  The dregs of this war are your inheritance now. Good Luck and see you around.
